Review: Blue Daisy x Unknown Shapes – Bedtime Stories (EP Orange Vinyl 12″ / Digital, Black Acre, 2012)

London producer Kwesi Darko (Blue Daisy) teamed up with Unknown Shapes, a group allegedly managed by Darko himself, to create this absolutely beautiful piece of music. Gone are the hip-hop beats Blue Daisy was long associated with (but never really intended to be anyway). And no sign of post-dubstep dance music we heard from Unknown Shapes last year. The 6-track EP builds an almost cinematic soundscape that relies on melodic elements instead of beat or dance structures.

This EP does exactly what it says on the tin. “Bedtime Stories” is music to make love to. It starts off slowly with sensual vocals and deep bass, creating an intimate atmosphere you can’t help but picture your girl slowly taking her cloths off. 90′s neon-synths, finger snapping and a female voice begging you to not stop drag you deep into a soundscape that is driven by a slow but heavy bass, setting the tempo while you drift off into your imagination. Just as you realize that slow motion sex can be very satisfying, 29 minutes are over. Just press replay and dive back in.
